one of those days

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Well, I must say that today has been one of the finer birthdays that I can recall.
Normally, I dread my birthday as it ends up being a pathetic series of incredibly unfestive events. Today, however, has been quite nice.
It’s a wonderful reminder that things can change drastically, even over the course of just one year.
Now I’m off to hopefully watch Obama start to change things.
Happy Birthday to me!

So much better…

I’ve had a horrible day. Felt sick all day, and just completely out of it. I’ve been surly and bitchy.

But that’s all changed now, thanks to Rodney Anonymous.

Ah, so much better now.

Boulez brings company.

Yeah… i don’t normally write this much about classical music…

When I was at the CSO yesterday, I saw that Pierre Boulez is going to be conducting a couple of shows (symphonies? what’s the right word here?) there throughout the year.

I know, awesome, right?

Wait… who the fuck is Pierre Boulez? Well, in addition to being a contemporary composer and conductor [source], he happens to be my dad’s favorite composer. (Also of note, he conducted Zappa…)

So, couple quick phone calls to the family and it looks like my dad is going to be coming out to see a show!

Awesome!

life is a many splendored thing…

So… a year ago life was weird. I had a job that I kind of hated. I’d been there for years. I was tired of it. I felt stagnant and bored almost all the time.

So, I came up with a solution.

I would move (back) to California and start over. Again.

Cut to today.

I have a new job, that I love and enjoy.

I walk and take the bus to work.

I have a great group of friends that constantly challenge me to better myself.

I’m working on quitting smoking (my worst habit that I’ve been doing for almost as long as I can remember…)

I’m planning out a wedding (to my wonderful techno-phobic partner of 9 years[next week]).

All in all, life kinda rules right now.

Guess what. I’m not in California.

This might be the first time in my life I can say that I was planning on bailing on life and actually stuck with it. Hooray for me!

Turns out, that if something in your life is sapping your will to live… you can change just that one thing. Shocking!

Onwards and upwards.
